Compact, short-travel hydraulic cylinders

For locking systems and short travels, up to 350 bar

Mainly intended for locking industrial applications, the cylinders of the compact series feature extremely small sizes and short travel, between 1 mm and 50 mm. They are designed and built to satisfy the most demanding locking and short-travel control conditions, with extended and efficient performances, minimum maintenance and utmost output. Thanks to the attention paid to the design and choice of materials and seals used, construction with high quality and accuracy standards, combined to a strict final test that reproduces the typical operating conditions of the cylinder, these hydraulic actuators are a valid choice for those heavy-duty applications with high cycle frequency, significant accelerations and harsh operating environments. Among the various examples of possible applications, there are the jaw locking systems, die locking systems and roller set-up control.

CMI provides its technical and design staff for special executions according to specific requirements. Personalised stem projections, special anchoring solutions and joints are only some of the customisation options offered by our company.

General characteristics

Intended for vertical and horizontal axis anchoring, they are made with hollow sleeve body in steel, inside of which the bronze piston slides. The stem is made in steel C45 with chrome appliqué or, upon request, in chromed steel 42CrMo4, tempered and chromed steel, stainless steel or ground, nitrided steel 41CrAlMo4. The head is joined to the sleeve by means of threading and is made in bronze to contemporarily satisfy the stem guide function and the seals housing function.

Sealing components

Particular focus is paid to sealing components, all the employed seals are of prime quality and optimised in order to minimize fluid leakage, maximizing static sealing, without compromising the overall performances and dynamics of the actuator. The various combinations include seals in polyurethane, PTFE and VITON + PTFE. Ad-hoc sealing solutions can be studied upon request, for particular actuating needs of the customer.

Size range
  • Boring from Ø20 mm to Ø100 mm – Stem from Ø15mm a Ø65mm
  • A stem size for boring size, female standard thread.
  • Two standard travel sizes (25/50mm) for each boring/ stem combination.
  • Upon request, they can be supplied with intermediate travel values, between 1 mm and 50 mm.
  • They can be designed and built upon request, to respond to the customer’s specific dimensional needs.
Connection inlets

Standard BSPP connection inlets with support surface, without spot faced surface.
Possibility to manufacture non-standard connection inlets based on the customer’s needs.

Operating limits
  • Nominal operating pressure (constant operation): 350 Bar (35MPa).
  • Actuating speed up to 0.5 m/sec with standard seals, 5 m/sec with PTFE seals.
  • Operating temperature: from -20°C to +150°C according to the fluid and type of seals used.

Optional characteristics

  • The cylinders of this series can be of single-actuating use in case of withdrawal or removal by means of external force or spring return.
  • They are supplied with internal spring for piston return.
  • They are fitted with air bleed muffler for dry chamber.
  • Proximity sensors installed inside heads to detect a reliable end-stop signal
